Martini – The Classic with variations
2 1/2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Dry Vermouth
1 Olive
Angostura Bitters (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Add ice to martini glass with water to “chill” the glass. Fill shaker half way with ice. Add Gin and Vermouth to shaker. Shake or Stir (your preference). Empty martini glass and shake dry. Pour drink into glass. Garnish with olive. Top with a dash of bitters.
DEFINITIONS:
VERMOUTH – wine made with herbs and spices such as cardamom, chamomile, cinnamon or coriander.
ANGOSTURA BITTERS - made of water, alcohol, herbs and spices and has a bitter flavor.
VARIATIONS:
DIRTY - add olive juice. A splash should do or more if you love olives.
DRY - less vermouth.
NAKED – no vermouth.
SWEET – use sweet vermouth.
VOKDA MARTINI - use Vodka instead of Gin.
Shaken, not stirred, will get you cold water with a dash of gin and dry vermouth. The reason you stir it with a special spoon is so not to chip the ice. James is ordering a weak martini and being snooty about it. – Jed Bartlett
